Famous Dyslexics : dyslexiques célèbres

As many as 15 percent of the world’s population shows some of the symptoms of dyslexia, according to the International Dyslexia Association, and not surprisingly, a great number of them are famous.

Here are some famous dyslexic people with their success stories:

 A famous scientist: Albert Einstein :

• Albert Einstein was born in Ulm in Germany on March 14, 1879.
• The Einstein family went to Munich where Albert went to school.
• He was an « average*(1) » pupil but he was very interested in science and mathematics.
• He did not like lessons at school as there was strict discipline at the time and as he was forced to learn.
  He left school at 15.
• But he went back to school in Switzerland from 1895 to 1896 to take his A-levels*(2). He finished his studies in July 1900.
• He discovered the theory of relativity.
• Einstein’s famous formula:
• In this mathematical equation, E stands for energy, m for mass and c for the speed of the light in a vacuum (ca. 300,000 km/s).

A famous actress: Keira Knightley

• Keira Christina Knightley was born in Teddington in the South West of London on March 26th 1985.
• She is the daughter of actor Will Knightley and actress turned playwright Sharman Macdonald.
• Her father is English, while her Scottish-born mother is of Scottish and Welsh origin.
• Brought up immersed in the acting profession from both sides – writing and performing.
•  She was diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of six; Keira had severe difficulties in reading and writing.
• At the age of 7, she performed in her first TV role as « Little Girl » in Screen One: Royal Celebration (1993).
• She is now famous and has starred in films such as Pride and Prejudice and the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

A famous cook : Jamie Oliver

  He died, aged 56, on the 5^th October 2011 in Palo Alto, California.
